Haven Behavioral Hospital Recognizes March as National Social Work Month

March was deemed National Social Work Month by the White House in 1984. Since then, each March the National Association of Social Workers (NASW) uses this as an opportunity to provide education about social issues, what social workers do and how they benefit society. In 2015, the NASW is also celebrating their 60th anniversary. According to the NASW, social workers “help individuals, families and groups restore or enhance their capacity for social functioning, and work to create societal conditions that support communities in need.” Professional social workers utilize this month to educate others on the benefits of social work, but Haven recognizes those individuals who give so much to their profession and their patients.

At Haven Behavioral Hospital, social workers are an integral part of the multi-disciplinary treatment teams for patients. Highly trained and educated, social workers provide crucial help and support for patients and their families while navigating through the behavioral health treatment process. In addition, social workers are an essential element in helping return our behavioral health patients back to their prior living accommodations and conditions.

Social workers are the largest group of mental health service providers in the country, according to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA). During the month of March, Haven Behavioral Hospital is honoring and celebrating our social workers who treat and assist patients and their families each day.
